"Talk is growing about Gov. Mike Rounds' recent rejection of expanded casinos sought by the Sisseton-Wahpeton and the Santee Sioux tribes.
Sisseton-Wahpeton wanted 500 more slot machines for its two facilities, at Dakota Sioux Casino north of Watertown and Dakota Connection Casino off Interstate 29 at the Sisseton exit.
The Santee also wanted more slots at its Royal River Casino in Flandreau.
Both tribes said the expansions would create new jobs and draw more tourists. Sisseton-Wahpeton said, for instance, the machines would mean a $17 million expansion at Dakota Sioux Casino, with 571 new jobs and 223,000 new out-of-state tourists."
