Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pennsylvania) [Web Site] plans to introduce a bill this week to limit the ability of tribes to engage in gaming on off-reservation land.
Dent said he is concerned about the growing practice of "reservation shopping.' He cited an attempt by the Delaware Nation of Oklahoma to acquire land in Pennsylvania for gaming. He said the case is before the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.
Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the House Resources Committee, has floated a bill to limit off-reservation gaming. Sen. David Vitter (R-Louisiana) has introduced a bill to bar reservation shopping.
