Two California tribes are said to be close to signing compacts to operate side-by-side casinos in Barstow.
The Los Coyotes Band of Mission Indians and the Big Lagoon Rancheria have been negotiating with the state. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) suggested the project, according to news reports.
Both tribes are based hundreds of miles away. Barstow is on a major interstate between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
