More than 2,000 signatures, nearly twice the number needed, have been gather to put a tribal casino initiative on the ballot in Barstow, California.
The city council approved a municipal services agreement with the Los Coyotes Band of Mission Indians for an off-reservation casino. The deal calls for Barstow to receive $5 million annually from the casino, expected to generate 2,800 jobs.
The Los Coyotes Band has teamed up with the Big Lagoon Rancheria to operate casinos side by side. The Chemehuevi Tribe also wants a casino in the city.
