Wisconsin tribes to make compact payments

Wisconsin's 11 gaming tribes are scheduled to make compacts payments to the state today but about $104 million is in doubt, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe is supposed to make a $43.6 million payment. Last year, the tribe paid $40.5 million.

The Ho-Chunk Nation withheld its $30 million payment last year. The tribe doesn't plan to make a payment this year until arbitration with the state is resolved, an official said.

The payments are in doubt because the state Supreme Court last year ruled that Gov. Jim Doyle (D) exceeded his authority by signing compacts that don't expire and allow expanded Class III games.
