The Kickapoo Tribe is seeing success with the only Indian casino in the state of Texas.
The other two tribes in the state -- the Tiguas in El Paso and the Alabama-Coushatta near Livingston -- had casinos but were forced to shut down by the state.
They courts have ruled that the tribe's gave up their gaming rights when they won federal recognition.
The Kickapoo Tribe didn't do that after gaining in recognition in 1983. So the tribe is operating Class II games that local officials say have created jobs and revenue for an economically depressed area.
Since the state won't negotiate for a compact, the tribe is asking the Interior Department to approve Class III games.
