The Maine House voted 94-53 on Tuesday to approve a bill that allows a tribal slot machine facility.
The Penobscot Nation and the Passamaquoddy Tribe wants to open a race track with slot machines in Washington County. They point out that voters legalized slots last November.
But opponents, including Gov. John Baldacci (D), say the tribes shouldn't be allowed to open their own racino. Baldacci is threatening to veto the bill. The Senate could take a vote as early as today.
