Rival factions of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe may disagree about who is in power but both say their off-reservation casino plans are not affected by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s proclamation on Indian gaming.
The Joe Kennedy faction and the Dan Shoshone faction say their proposed casino in Hesperia is not affected by the policy against "urbanized" casinos.
The factions are each pursuing separate deals with separate developers.
Hesperia is located hundreds of miles from the tribe's reservation in Death Valley, where gaming is prohibited. The tribe says it has a right under federal law to select land for economic development.
