Wisconsin tribes far apart on off-reservation casino

Two Wisconsin tribes are still on opposite sides of the fence when it comes to an off-reservation casino in the Milwaukee area.

The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe already operates a casino in Milwaukee. The tribe says its operation will be harmed if the Menominee Nation is allowed to open one in nearby Kenosha.

The Menominee Nation disagrees. The tribe released a study last month arguing that both casinos can co-exist and has offered the Potawatomis marketing, development and other deals, all of which have been rejected.

The Menominee casino is being financed by the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut. The tribe has asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to acquire an old dog track in trust.
