The developers of the massive Mall of America are proposing a massive $1 billion expansion project that would include a casino larger than the nearest tribal casino.
The Ghermezians presented their proposal for the Phase II expansion at a Bloomington city council meeting last night. They said the casino 200,000 square feet on the top floor of the proposed four-story expansion. That would make it more than twice the size of the gaming space at the Mystic Lake casino owned by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.
It is not clear whether the proposal will include three tribes that have sought a Twin Cities casino. A representative of those tribes was scheduled to speak last night but did not appear, the Associated Press reported.
