California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) is proposing to double the budget and staff of the state Gambling Control Commission.
The commission currently has a budget of about $4 million and a staff of about 40 people. Schwarzenegger wants to increase the budget by $2.2 million this year and $4.8 million the following to double the staff.
The commission oversees 53 tribal casinos and 100 non-Indian card clubs. It has been perceived as lax.
