Progress reported in talks over disputed machines

Representatives of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) met again on Monday to discuss the tribe's use of video lottery terminals.

Both sides reported progress and plan to meet again in hopes of resolving the situation by early January. Options include an independent review of the dispute or legal action in the courts.

The tribe offers the terminals at its casino in addition to slot machines. Schwarzenegger claims the terminals are the same as slot machines and are covered by the tribal-state compact.
