Company acquires property for Catskills casino

The gaming company that has partnered with two tribes has acquired two properties in the Catskills region of New York.

Empire Resorts Inc. purchased two resorts for stock valued at $250 million. Shares of the company were up 23 percent as of closing yesterday.

Empire is working with the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma. The tribe and Gov. George Pataki (R) agreed to settle the Cayuga land claim for a casino in the Catskills.

Empire also works with the Cayuga Nation. Pataki had announced an agreement with the tribe for a Catskills but talks have fallen through.
