California to review tribal gaming regulators

California's attorney general will now review whether tribes are conducting suitable background checks on tribal gaming commissioners.

The state was prompted by a press report which said at least seven regulators for the Chumash Tribe have problems in their past that would prevent them from being hired at casinos elsewhere. The tribe is said to be open to the review.

The National Indian Gaming Commission is also conducting is own assessment of the tribe. NIGC Chairman Phil Hogen said a conclusion is expected soon.
