Michigan initiative to limit new gaming passes

A ballot initiative in Michigan to limit new gaming was approved at the polls on Tuesday.

Proposal 1 was leading with 60 percent of the vote. Opponents, including Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) and top Republicans, conceded defeat.

The measure requires voters to approve all new gaming. Tribal casinos and the three casinos in Detroit, which spent heavily for the passage in order to limit competition, are exempt. One of those casinos is tribal-owned.
