Chickasaw Nation donates $251K in one month

The Chickasaw Nation made $251,000 in campaign contributions during the month of September, The Daily Oklahoman reports.

The tribe gave the money to Oklahoma Kids Coalition, a pro-lottery group. The first donation of $1,000, was made September 2, and the second of $250,000 was made September 22, according to the paper. These tribal monies account for approximately 87 percent of the money raised by the pro-lottery group in September.

Oklahoma Kids Coaltion two questions on the November 2 ballot: State Question 705 which would support a statewide lottery to fund education and State Question 706 which would ensure those funds would be reserved for educational purposes.

Passage of a lottery bill in the state would allow Oklahoma tribes to engage in Class III gaming without a compact similar to tribes in Florida. The Chickasaw Nation also supports State Question 712 which would allow them to operate certain electronic games under a compact with the state.
