Tribal leader challenges governor to debate

The chairwoman of the Upper Sioux Tribe has challenged Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) to a debate on Indian gaming.

Helen Blue-Redner wrote a letter saying that Pawlenty is making the tribes "look as bad" as he can by saying they make billions at their casinos. She said tribes will tell the "truth" about gaming.

Pawlenty wants to renegotiate gaming compacts to take more money from tribes. He claims tribal casinos make $10-14 billion a year but the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association says the actual figure is around $1-2 billion.
