Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) says his fellow Republicans should support him when it comes to Indian gaming.
Schwarzenegger is opposing Proposition 70, a ballot initiative sponsored by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. He is upset that Republican lawmakers are endorsing the tribe's bid -- after taking money from tribes.
At a private GOP retreat, Schwarzenegger criticized the lawmakers for accepting tribal donations. "Loyalty is big with this governor," a spokesperson said. "I think that’s clear."
During the campaign, Schwarzenegger blasted fellow state Sen. Tom McClintock, a fellow Republican and supporter of tribal rights, for taking contributions from tribes.
