Lawmakers want more out of Minnesota tribes

Minnesota's gaming tribes should share more revenues with the state, lawmakers said at a debate on Wednesday.

Republican and Democrat leaders said they were encouraged by an offer from the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe to renegotiate a compact. They also are interested in an urban casino involving the Leech Lake Band and two other Ojibwe bands.

Republican House Speaker Steve Sviggum said tribes should pay more of existing revenues or face competition from private casinos. Democrat House Minority Leader Matt Entenza said he wants to help our poorer tribes.
