County wants new compact with Morongo Band

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to seek a new compact with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians that doesn't negatively impact the county or the tribe.

County officials already offered to help Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) negotiate an agreement. So did the Morongo Band.

The tribe and others in southern California offered a billion-dollar bond package for the state but Morongo Chairman Maurice Lyons said the deal was rejected. There have been no talks since then.
