Tribal gaming boom to benefit California the most

California is poised to become the nation's biggest gambling state under the expansion of tribal casinos.

The tribes currently generate an estimated $6 billion a year. That could double as more and more casinos expand or open in the coming years.

Some tribes signed compacts with the state to increase the number of slot machines they can operate. The current limit is 2,000 per tribe.

Other tribes are proposing massive casinos in urban areas. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) recently signed an agreement to allow a landless tribe to convert a card club into a large Class III facility that would have up to 2,500 slot machines.
