Bay Area in California a hotbed of casino activity

The Bay Area in northern California could have up to three Class III tribal casinos.

Two tribes are looking at land in Richmond and North Richmond. One is the Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians, which doesn't have a land base.

Another nameless tribe is working with a former Republican senator who served as Defense secretary during the second Clinton administration and was former chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. William Cohen is lobbying to have a former Navy site taken into trust, possibly via an act of Congress.

In nearby San Pablo, the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians has a Class II operation. The tribe is seeking approval for a Class III operation.
