Members of the Shinnecock Nation of New York called on the town of Southampton to stop fighting the tribe's plans for a casino.
Local officials say a casino would devastate the community. But tribal members say the town is hypocritical for allowing casino nights and other large-scale developments. The tribe also said Class III gaming is inevitable in the state.
The town has spent $582,000 in its legal battle against the tribe. The town wants a federal judge to stop the tribe from moving forward with a casino. The judge said he will rule if the tribe is qualified for federal recognition.
