Washington tribes combat problem gambling

Tribes in Washington are working on ways to treat people with gambling problems.

Money ran out for a state-funded program last year and lawmakers haven't found a way to restart it. But in the meantime, several tribes have contributed to the Washington State Council on Problem Gambling. The Muckleshoot Tribe is making a $350,000 payment to the state strictly for problem gambling treatment.

The Kalispel Tribe created a program at its mental health institute for gambling addictions. About 25 people have gone through treatment since 2002. The tribe has adopted other policies at its casino to address the issue.
