Agencies pool resources for crimes at casinos

Several federal agencies announced the creation of the Indian Gaming Working Group on Wednesday.

The National Indian Gaming Commission, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of Interior, Department of Justice, Department of Treasury and the FBI are involved. They say working together will allow them to stretch scarce federal resources.

The Indian gaming industry has grown to $16 billion in the past decade. The majority of crimes are theft of money, officials said on Wednesday. There are only 31 open cases of alleged criminal casino activity in all of Indian Country, an FBI official said.

The working group was created in February 2003.
