Seneca-Cayuga Tribe offered site for casino

The mayor of Auburn, New York, wants the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma to build a casino in his community.

Mayor Tim Lattimore wrote to Gov. George Pataki (R) and offered a site for the casino. He said it would create well-paying jobs and generate revenues for local communities.

The tribe is negotiating with Pataki to settle its land claim, possibly in exchange for gaming rights. The Bush administration is still debating its position on the issue.

The tribe's backer in the venture is mall developer Thomas C. Wilmot. He wants to build a $500 million casino in Rochester.
