Tribe gives $700K even before casino is opened

The Coast Miwok Tribe has yet to open its casino but gave $700,000 to the city of Rohnert Park, California, on Monday for a police team.

The money is part of an agreement to share $200 million with the city. The tribe will start making annual payments of $500,000 next year for the police team even though the casino might not break ground for another year. The agreement calls for other payments to cover other purposes as well.

The tribe, also known as the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, still has to negotiate a compact with the state and have land placed into trust for the project.
