Hopi Tribe readies for crucial vote on casino

Members of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona will go to the polls next Wednesday to decide if they want to get into gaming.

The tribe is looking for revenues due to the potential shutdown of a mine that generates $7 million in royalties every year. A casino could bring in $24 million a year, according to tribal estimates.

The vote will be up or down on a casino, according to a recently published report. An option to lease the tribe's slot machine rights to another tribe was taken off the ballot.
