Muckleshoot Tribe funds effort against gaming initiative

The Muckleshoot Tribe of Washington is funding a political committee aimed at defeating a ballot initiative that would authorize non-Indian gaming.

The tribe gave $50,000 to the "No on I-892" committee, which is being run for a public affairs consultant for the tribe. Other groups are expected to join the effort.

Initiative 892 was launched by Tim Eyman. If approved, it would allow bowling alleys, bars, taverns and mini-casinos to operate as many as 14,000 slot machines. Eyman says gaming revenues will be used to lower property taxes.
