Jena Band asks Louisiana governor for compact

The Jena Band of Choctaw Indians is asking Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D) to sign a Class III gaming compact.

The tribe wants to open a casino on land in Grant Parish. The Bureau of Indian Affairs took the land into trust for non-gaming purposes.

Blanco says she is opposed to any expansion of gaming. But the tribe says she can't legally refuse, since three other tribes in the state have compacts.
