Viejas chairman says compact talks nearly complete

The chairman of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians spoke at the Sacramento Press Club on Tuesday.

Anthony Pico said a small group of tribes are near an agreement with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to share more revenues with the state. "The amount of money is significant. How much depends on how many tribes join in the final details," Pico was quoted as saying.

Under the agreement, the tribes would be able to break the 2,000 slot machine limit. A final announcement could come by the summer.
