Tribe apologizes for casino ad targeting people in debt

The governor of Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico has issued a public apology for ads that suggested people in debt should gamble.

Gov. Alvino Lucero said the ads "reflected poor judgment and conveyed a message that is wrong and misleading," according to a letter sent to The Albuquerque Journal. While they were produced without tribal approval, he said the tribe "accepts responsibility for their airing and has taken steps to ensure that these or any type of similar ads do not air again."

The 30-second television spot urged people in debt to come to the casino to participate in a cash giveaway.
