Wyandotte Nation's casino in Kansas remains open

Officials in Kansas have decided not to seek the immediate closure of the Wyandotte Nation's casino in downtown Kansas City.

The National Indian Gaming Commission, in an opinion, determined that the Oklahoma-based tribe cannot legally game on the land. The tribe is being given a chance to respond before the agency makes its next move.

A federal judge has denied the tribe's request to stop the NIGC from closing the facility, which only offers Class II games. Multimedia Games of Texas owns the machines and is considering the impact of the NIGC's decision. The state could seek to have the machines removed but they are located on tribal trust land.
