Non-Indians complain of tribe's casino invasion

The way the residents of the Capay Valley in Yolo County, California tell it, their land was paradise until the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians showed up.

Well the tribe didn't exactly show up -- its members had been living in the area forever. What has brought complaints is the tribe's casino, which is undergoing a major expansion in hopes of becoming the largest Indian gaming facility in Northern California.

Residents say the tribe's Cache Creek Casino Resort has brought traffic and driven up crime. They object the presence of a casino amid their farms and undeveloped land.

The Rumsey Band is one of several tribes actively negotiating with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to share a greater portion of casino revenues with the state.
