City opposes Indian but not non-Indian gaming

The city council in La Center, Washington, voted unanimously on Wednesday to oppose the Cowlitz Tribe's request to have 152 acres placed into trust for a casino.

The council said it will inform the Bureau of Indian Affairs of the adverse impacts the casino might have on the city. The casino would be located two miles from the city's downtown.

The city seems mostly concerned that the tribe will force four non-Indian mini-casinos out of business. The city receives $3 million in tax revenues from those facilities.
