Wis. voters reject Ho-Chunk Nation by wide margin

Voters in Dane County, Wisconsin, rejected the Ho-Chunk Nation's proposal to turn a bingo hall into a full-fledged casino.

Casino opponents were pleased but very surprised by the 64 percent who voted no to the project. "I'm genuinely shocked," one anti-casino organizer was quoted as saying.

The vote was non-binding but Gov. Jim Doyle (D) immediately responded that he would not give the approval the tribe needs to offer Class III games at the facility.
