An off-reservation casino could generate between $16 million and $53 million over 10 years for the city of Monroe, Ohio,, according to a financial analysis.
The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma has purchased land in the city for the proposed development. The city is considering signing an intergovernmental agreement with the tribe but negotiations have stalled.
According to the analysis, the casino would create between 8,000 to 10,000 jobs and generate up to $750 million in business development. Some officials like the idea because the city is in a fiscal emergency.
