A former employee of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut has gone public with his criticism of the way the tribe's successful casino is regulated.
Brad Beecher, a 21-year state police veteran, was an investigator for the tribal gaming commission. He claims there was little separation between the people who ran the casino and those who were supposed to ensure the casino was operating within the law.
Beecher says he carried activities that he didn't like, such as reading the local police blotter to find out if casino employees had problematic backgrounds. He also didn't like being asked to investigate what people did off the reservation.
Beecher was eventually transferred to another tribal department but left after the new position was downsized. He later threatened to disclose confidential information about the tribe unless he was paid "seven figures." The tribe obtained a permanent injunction against him that allows him to express his opinions about the casino.
