A new law in Illinois requires the state governor to get legislative approval before entering into a compact for a tribal casino.
Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) vetoed the Native American Gaming Act, saying the executive branch has a right to negotiate compacts. But state lawmakers overrode him.
The law has opponents of a proposed casino happy. They say it will be impossible for the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin to get lawmakers to agree to an off-reservation casino.
