A northern New Mexico tribe is shaking the state up with its plan to bring in electronic Class II machines that have been the source of disputes elsewhere in the nation.
San Juan Pueblo will install 29 electronic bingo machines later this month. An executive said the tribe wants to offer customers something new.
But Gov. Bill Richardson (D) is upset that the tribe didn't consult him first, saying they could affect tribal-state compacts that require revenue sharing for Class III machines. State Attorney General Patricia Madrid plans to investigate.
