The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is hoping to secure a non-binding letter of support for an off-reservation casino in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The tribe says the letter will help bring investors for the project and determine where the casino would be located in the city. They hope to get the letter within three weeks.
Tribal leaders presented their project to the city council on Monday night. They said would meet with anyone concerned about a casino in an urban area.
Other North Dakota tribes oppose the idea. They say it will hurt their existing on-reservation casinos.
