Voters in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, showed their support for an off-reservation casino in a nonbinding referendum on Tuesday.
The Menominee Nation plans to convert a racetrack into a casino. The tribe needs state approval to acquire the land because it is off-reservation.
Gov. Jim Doyle (D) has said he will rely on the results of the referendum in making a decision. The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, which operates a casino in the Milwaukee area, opposes the casino.
