Only two tribal leaders showed up for a meeting called by Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) to discuss gaming.
Erma Vizenor, chairwoman of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, and George Goggleye, chairman of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, went to discuss their proposal for an urban casino. The tribes have partnered with the Red Lake Band for a facility in the Twin Cities.
Pawlenty said he is open to the idea. But he also threatened to allow non-Indian gaming if tribes don't share $350 million a year in revenues.
The nine other tribes in the state have criticized Pawlenty's tactics. They say he is grossly inflating casino profits in order to justify revenue-sharing.
