Voters in Nebraska are being asked to legalize casino gaming when they go to the polls on November 2.
Two ballot initiatives would legalize Class III gaming. One initiative allows two casinos while the other allows slot machines and video gaming machines at bars, restaurants and other facilities.
If either is approved, tribes can offer Class III games. Katherine Spilde, a Harvard University researcher, said well-regulated gaming brings benefits to tribes and states. She was brought in the backers of the two-casino initiative and said "destination" casinos are better in the long run that "convenience" gaming.
Gambling With the Good Life, an anti-gambling group, is fighting both initiatives. They say legalized gambling will increase crime, gambling addictions and other social problems.
