Kansas lawmakers should approve a compact for the state's first urban tribal casino, Kansas City mayor Carol Marinovich said.
Marinovich said the deal with the Kickapoo Tribe and the Sac and Fox Tribe will generate revenues and jobs. The Kansas City government is expected to receive $10 million in annual revenue while the state is expected to get $40 million a year.
The tribes, which already operate casinos on their reservations, have agreed to share 12 percent of the first $100 million in revenues and 22 percent after that with the state. The tribes will share, with the county, 4.2 percent of the gambling revenues for each of the first seven years and 6.5 percent annually after that.
The compact bars future tribal casinos and limits the number of slot machines at racetracks near Kansas City.
