California tribes expect to spend a total of $15 million on television ads promoting Proposition 70, The Los Angeles Times reports
That's $5 million more than Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) is spending on ads to oppose Proposition 70 and Proposition 68, a rival initiative no longer being supported.
Schwarzenegger says tribes won't be paying their "fair share" if Prop. 70 is approved even though it applies the same tax rate to casinos as to every other corporation in the state.
Spending on ads is separate from the money the tribes have raised for the Yes on 70 campaign. According to The Times, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians have spent more than $22.5 million. The Morongo Band of Mission Indians donated $3.5 million.
