The newly recognized Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut announced a deal on Friday to allow union organization at a possible casino.
The tribe and UNITE HERE, a union representing hotel and casino workers, said a casino would create at least 4,500 permanent jobs. The tribe hasn't made a decision to allow unions for the casino construction but that portion could generate 10,000 jobs.
Connecticut's two other tribal casinos do not allow unions. UNITE HERE has been trying force tribes with casinos in California to allow them.
The tribe gained recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs but the decision is on appeal.
