Negotiations continue over a proposed urban casino in Kansas.
The Kickapoo Tribe and the Sac and Fox Tribe want to open a $210 million resort 20 miles west of downtown Kansas City. The 80-acre site is across the street from the Kansas Speedway and is near a retail and entertainment district that is the state's top tourist draw.
According to The Kansas City Star, the state is seeking a "primary" role in regulation of the casino. The parties involved aren't saying much but a deal could be announced in early September.
The Kickapoo and Sac and Fox tribes already operate casinos on their reservations. Two other Kansas tribes, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and the Iowa Tribe, also operate casinos.
