The Muckleshoot Tribe of Washington has invested $1.6 million in a racetrack in a move to bring the facility under tribal management.
The tribe bought the 167 acres where Emerald Downs sits for $73 million. The new investment will help tribal members enter the racing field and poises the tribe to take over the track, officials said.
The tribe's money will raise the stakes for races and expand the racing season.
