The village board in Crete, Illinois, took no position on the Ho-chunk Nation's proposed off-reservation casino.
The board had been asked by a resident to oppose the project. Marvin Huisenga of Citizens for Our Community said the tribe's sovereign and "tax-exempt" status will hurt the community.
The tribe, based in Wisconsin, is seeking Congressional approval to have land in Illinois placed in trust for the project. The tribe has said it doesn't have to include a casino.
